Elderly Rebate ProgramThe City established the Elderly Rebate Program in 1975. The program exempts the payments of sewer and refuse charges for City residents who are 62 years of age and older and whose total household income does not exceed the prescribed income that is set each year by the City Commission. The following are guidelines for city residents to participate in the program:
Gross income including that of your spouse and anyone living with you cannot exceed:
1 Person: $24,650.00
2 Persons: $28,150.00
3 Persons: $31,700.00
4 Persons: $35,200.00
5 Persons: $38,000.00
6 Persons: $40,850.00
7 Persons: $43,650.00
8 Persons: $46,450.00
If you meet the above qualifications, please come to the Leavenworth City Hall between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to complete the following application process.
Application Process
1. Have application completed by March 31, 2010. Applications are completed in the City Clerk's Office, 1st Floor, City Hall, 100 N. 5th Street.
2. Bring proof of age (birth certificate, drivers license) if not currently a program participant.
3. Bring proof of your gross income from ALL sources. Federal, State income tax returns or the Kansas Homestead Claim are the only forms of proof of income that will be accepted.
4. If you need assistance completing a Homestead you may contact the County Clerk's Office at 684-0419 or City Clerk's Office at 682-9201 to set up an appointment.
If you meet the above qualifications and complete the application process, the City of Leavenworth will pay your monthly sewer and refuse charges which appear on your water bill for a period of one year. Your monthly sewer and refuse charges will be marked "Elderly Rebate" on your water bill.
For transportation assistance, contact the Senior Citizen Transportation Van at 684-0778. Be sure to allow 2-3 days notice for transportation services.
If you are currently in the program you must again apply in person to remain on the program. For additional information contact the City Clerk's Office, 1st Floor, City Hall at 682-9201.
