Economic DevelopmentThe City of Leavenworth offers an adaptable, progressive working environment for potential developers interested in bringing business to Leavenworth. Leavenworth is considered an outer-ring suburb of Kansas City, Missouri and is a full-service community. Leavenworth is home to Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary, and the Eisenhower Veterans Administration Medical Center. Our major employers include Hallmark Cards, Corrections Corporation of America, as well as the Armed Forces Banking and Insurance Centers. The comprehensive plan adopted in 1997 provides a vision of an excellent small city with large metropolitan opportunities. The City of Leavenworth partners with many organizations to promote economic development. Leavenworth Main Street, Inc. focuses on development in the Downtown business district and Leavenworth County Development Corporation works to promote development throughout Leavenworth County. The Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce works to promote business interests locally and at the state level.
The City and its partners, continuously work to diversify the area's economy in an organized, concerted effort to promote commercial, industrial and retail development.
