Public information meetings to explain stormwater project funding

City of Leavenworth Public Information Office – Sept. 13, 2017

The City of Leavenworth is seeking public feedback on a funding mechanism for a major stormwater repair program.

The City Commission has discussed its aging stormwater infrastructure and the need for increased funding during several public meetings. They have identified more than $83 million in needed maintenance. Some of the stormwater stone arches are more than 120 years old, others are experiencing collapse or corrosion. The stormwater system carries rainwater away from buildings and roads and channels into creeks and watershed areas.

In order to explain more about the system and to obtain public feedback, City officials will hold two public meetings to discuss future plans for Leavenworth’s stormwater system. The City is seeking feedback on whether the public prefers fee-supported funding or property tax supported funding.

Public information meetings will be held:

  • 5:30 – 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade St.
  • 5:30 – 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Fire Station 1, 3600 S. 20th St.
