Stormwater public meeting planned to explain project funding May 8

April 25, 2018 | Public Information Officer

The Leavenworth City Commission has chosen a funding mechanism for major repairs to its stormwater infrastructure. To discuss the funding structure, the public is invited to an information meeting 6-7 p.m. Tuesday May 8 at Leavenworth City Hall, 100 N. Fifth St. There will be no formal presentation, but staff will be available to answer questions from the public.

In 2017, the City identified more than $83 million in needed maintenance to the City’s stormwater system. Some of the stormwater stone arches are more than 120 years old. They and other parts of the system are experiencing collapse or corrosion. The stormwater system carries rainwater away from building, roads and channels into creeks and watershed areas. Beginning in April 2017, the City held more than 10 public meetings related to the stormwater fee program.

The fees proposed by the City Commission are online here.
