K-9 Unit

The K-9 Unit is responsible for providing assistance to the Patrol and Investigations Division by tracking people, searching buildings or open areas, searching for illegal substances, and assisting with the apprehension of criminals. They are often involved with assisting outside agencies and appear at many community events throughout the year.
 K-9 Ofc. Wooten and Ace
K-9 Ace joined the Leavenworth Police Department in 2016 after completing training with his handler, Officer Wooten in May. You may see them out on patrol in your neighborhood!
K-9 Ivan
 K-9 Ivan, a Belgian Malinois, received 21 weeks of training prior to joining his handler for an additional 6 weeks of training. He was retired in early 2016.
Officer Herring with K-9 AronAron, also a Belgian Malinois, served along side of Officer Steve Herring from 2001 to 2008. Aron is retired from service and passed away in July of 2010.
Kikkert and Officer BledsoeKikkert served along side of Officer Todd Bledsoe. He was a Malinois from Holland. Kikkert, which means "frog" in Dutch, was in-service from early 1993 until his retirement in the spring of 2002. On November 11, 2005 Kikkert passed away.
Hombre with Officer Todd BledsoeHombre, a German Shepherd from Czechoslovakia, began serving on the department in 1983 with Officer Rick Countryman. Officer Don Crabtree became Hombre's second handler in 1986. Officer Todd Bledsoe was Hombre's final handler until Hombre retired in May of 1991. Hombre passed away on July 29, 1992.
