American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

2019 Lifeguard Training

Students will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR, AED and First Aid. 

 

Spring 2024 - April 21, 27, 28, 2024 (weekends)

Prerequisites

  1. Jump in, submerge, resurface and swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
    • Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
    • Swim goggles are allowed.
  2. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
    • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

  1. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
    • The face may be in or out of the water.
    • Swim goggles are not allowed.
  2. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face at or near the surface.
  4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

 

Class Information:

  • Minimum of 3, maximum of 10 per class.
  • Student must attend all classes in each session to become certified.
  • Items needed for class:
    • Notebook/paper and writing utensil
    • Swim goggles and plenty of towels
    • Dry clothes to change into
    • Snacks/water (drinking fountains on-site)

Fee:

  • $180 - Residents (City of Leavenworth, Fort Leavenworth)
  • $200 - Non-residents
  • Class fee may be reimbursable for students coming to work for the City as a lifeguard.  

You may register and pay online (convenience fees apply), or come to the Riverfront Community Center's front desk during normal hours to register and pay in person.

 

Waiver:
Payment to attend this activity/class means you agree to the following:  "I hereby give my authorization for participation in the activities of the above-named recreation activity or class.  I assume all risks incidental to the conduct of the activities or class and release, absolve, indemnify, and hold harmless the City of Leavenworth Parks & Recreation Department, the sponsors and supervisors.  Further, in case of injury, I hereby waive all claims against the City of Leavenworth, its sponsors, or any supervisors appointed to them.
 
Photographs and videos taken by the City during the activity will be used for marketing purposes by the Parks & Recreation Department and will become the property of the City of Leavenworth.
