Operation Red File for Senior Citizens

Folders for seniors’ refrigerators provides needed information in an emergency

Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services’ (KDADS) Senior Medicare Patrol joined the Leavenworth County Council on Aging, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Leavenworth Police Department Friday to launch Operation Red File. Leavenworth will be the second location in the state to launch this program designed to help seniors keep their critical health information accessible if needed in an emergency.

“It is important to keep copies of key medical records at hand in case of an emergency. Operation Red File makes those records instantly available and recognizable to first responders,” said KDADS Interim Secretary Tim Keck. Operation Red File began in Shawnee County earlier this year with plans to expand the program statewide.

What to do with Operation Red File:

Seniors are encouraged to put necessary information in the provided clear, red plastic folder and hang it on their fridge so that emergency responders can find it during an emergency. Necessary information might include an updated photograph, a list of emergency contacts and a list of medications.

The City of Leavenworth has files available for seniors over 60 at:
